Blackberry to the new Exchange server:

If you want to connect your Blackberry to the ITC Exchange Server via the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES).

1.      Be sure the Blackberry is provisioned for Enterprise (not just Internet) access.  This may require a call to the provider (Alltel, T-Mobile, etc) to be sure the account is Enterprise enabled.

2.      Send an email request to ITC-Microsystems@virginia.edu

a.       Include your account ID (mst3k)

b.      Include your PTAO for billing

3.      You will receive an email message indicating your BES account has been established along with a password.

4.      On the Blackberry find the Enterprise Activation option:

a.       Make sure you have 2 or more bars of coverage on the Blackberry in your location

b.      Enter your email account such as:    mst3k@eservices.virginia.edu

c.       Enter the password provided in the email message

5.      After a minute or so activation will begin.

6.      It may take several minutes for activation to complete.

Note that your existing email, calendar and address book information on the Blackberry will be replaced with email, calendar and contact information found in your Exchange account.  Changes made on the Blackberry will automatically synch to Exchange and vice versa.

You may want to make a configuration change on the Blackberry.  Under Messages, go to Options; Email Reconciliation:

1.      Be sure “Delete on:” is set to Prompt

2.      Wireless reconcile is On

3.      On Conflicts is: Mailbox wins

NOTE:

1. You can certainly use other PDAs (such as Treos and Windows Mobile devices). They do not connect via the Blackberry server. I'll post instructions for connecting those devices when I can, although I haven't connected one, so if you have instructions please feel free to forward them to me for posting.

2. There is a cost associated with the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). The BES is a separate server and has licensing costs from RIM. I can only give you an educated estimate on the cost until the rate schedule has been approved by the administration. There is a onetime cost of $55 for the license and an annual cost of less than $200 for support and maintenance.
